Spanish - Research

Corpus linguistics has for a long time been a basic research field, and this has served us well. During the last few decades the research interest has been broadened, and researchers have dedicated themselves to studies on translatology, syntax, pragmatics, semantics, sociolinguistics and comparative Romance linguistics as well as the history of Spanish.

Traditionally, there has been a focus on 19th century Latin-American literature, but during the last twenty years there has also been an increasing interest in Spanish and Spanish-American literature from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as an interest in the 16th and 17th centuries. A particular interest has been dedicated to genres such as fantasy, the historical novel and literary testimony.

Cultural Studies

We are also involved in research subjects like cultural borders, linguistic landscaping, Gothicism, Basque identity, historical relations between Sweden and Spain and translatology.

Didactics in literary studies

Two of the researchers in Spanish were also involved in the research project "Being foreign and making foreign (Attitudes to literature in teaching at university level)" that was concluded with the publication of a substantial volume in 2009. Currently some of our researchers are working on a project on text and reading through digital media.
