Greek - Research

Research in Greek at the University of Gothenburg has traditionally centred on texts of the postclassical period and Late Antiquity. A project devoted to the orator Libanius (4th century A.D.) is currently in progress. In the last few decades, texts from the Byzantine era have become an important area of research (editorial philology, literary studies, history of philosophy); an extensive editorial project is devoted to the statesman and scholar Theodore Metochites. Doctoral dissertations in recent years have dealt with Libanius, the tragic poet Aeschylus, and the choral poet Pindar. The discipline has been quite successful in gaining external funding.
