I have a post-doctoral position (2006-2012) as a researcher of The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, held at the University of Gothenburg. My current research focuses on the representation of memories of dictatorship and repression in contemporary Uruguayan and Argentine literature.
I initially focused on documentary texts, testimonies and testimonial novel. Gradually my interest shifted towards narratives that, by challenging the testimonial canon both formally, thematically and epistemologically, shape memories of the recent past.
My investigation focuses on the reading pacts suggested by the narratives as well as the temporal and spatial circumstances of writing, which ultimately lead to discussions concerning the instability of genre definitions and of the ontological status of the text. Furthermore the conventional analysis of the testimony and the testimonial novel is problematized introducing concerns on the relationship between narrative and memory. This perspective puts the configuration of narratives of memory in relation to the social and cultural processes involved in giving meaning to the recent past
