About Linnéa Gunnarsdotter

Project

In my thesis I investigate politeness strategies in the variety of French spoken in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. French is widely used in Abidjan, and as a result of the particular context in which it is used, some unique features have evolved, for example in terms of syntactic and morphological structures. What I focus on, however, are the pragmatic features related to the politeness system, i.e. the unwritten social rules. How do you ask for something politely in Abidjanese French? Do the politeness strategies vary depending on who is talking to whom? The project is situated within the field of sociolinguistics.

About me

My pursuit of higher education began with two semesters of French studies at the University of Perpignan. I continued my studies in Sweden, mostly within the field of linguistics, in order to obtain a Master’s degree in translation studies and an M1 Master’s degree in French at the University of Gothenburg. Over the years I have also worked in various sectors outside the academic world in Sweden, France, the UK and Ivory Coast.
